Why it is important to set an internal foundation first before integrating ISO standards?

Updated: Jul 10, 2023

Hello and welcome to Sysberg.

My previous video presentation covered 5 helpful tips to better prepare when integrating ISO standards.

Here is the link in case you haven’t watched that video <Link>

Especially, tips #3 (regarding knowing your strength) and #5 (regarding a step-by-step approach to building a foundation) are quite relevant to what I have to share here.

In this presentation, I would like to share

" Why it is important to set an internal management system foundation, using a step-by-step

approach and get used to it, prior to integrating external standards such as ISO 9001, ISO 14001, or ISO 45001 ?"

As simple as it may sound but many businesses don't have this.

They don't have an internal management system foundation. They also do not make an effort in setting the foundation using a step-by-step approach and get used to it prior to integrating external standards such as ISO.

So, watch till the end, it is not only helpful to integrate ISO standards but also very useful in improving your business processes in general.

I am going to explain this with a metaphor so that it is easy to understand.

See that picture on the right. Imagine you want your body to be stronger and are aiming to lift 150kg.

As a beginner, would you rather;

A) put all of 150 kgs into the weight bar and start lifting?

OR

B) learn first how to hold the bar correctly, balance while lifting it, and then progressively add weight as you get comfortable?
